I remember seeing a documentary about his work in Cuba called “A Night In Havana: Dizzie Gillespie in Cuba” (1989).  There is this scene where he is directing his band on how to overlay with one another. It was before they performed A Night in Tunisia. He is on stage before his performance with Arturo Sandoval & doing what I do in the studio with dancers except with musicians. This is my life’s goal. To understand the composition of a song so much that I can add to the significance of a piece of music by rearranging it.  Heres the trailer.
